About The Painting.

My paintings start with a line, squiggle or shape.  And, then, I embark on a mental dance of drawing out ideas and creating a unified expression.  I work best when I become absorbed by the dialogue between the painting and me.  The composition is complete when I see something that surprises and delights me.  My intention is to express the beauty and wonder of life.

Regarding this painting in particular, imagine a dance between circles and spirals.  The possibilities may be endless.  But, in this case, they dance in the colors yellow, blue, violet and orange.  The movement starts with a circle, a spiral, and then another shape joins in.  Soon enough, the paper is filled with circles, spirals, lines and shapes.  Why? Just for the joy of the movement and dance.

About This Show.

This is the third time I have had the pleasure of participating in an Emerald Art Center national exhibition.  The last time was in 2022.   The facility is wonderful and I can’t help but think “every town ought to have one of these!”  And I am impressed by the professionalism and dedication of the members and volunteers.  I feel welcome when I visit.

Personal Note.

My painting was one of 65 works chosen for the show out of 283 submissions from around the country.  The works cover a variety of media, styles and genre.  Several of my artist friends are in the show, too; congrats! I feel grateful to  have “When Circles and Spirals Dance” included and look forward to seeing the show.

Thank you!

Hi Margaret, or maybe I should call you Peggy? Peter told us yesterday that you were taking a break from class and we talked warmly about your contribution and how powerfully your work had transitioned during your time in this ASL class. I can surely relate to changing circumstances and can attest to the value of feeling confident about taking time, (artist’s time as Robert Smithson calls it), until things settle out somehow. For me it was helpful to delay participating in the class review process and I was grateful for the latitude everyone gave me.
I’m so impressed with your work and exhibition effort. I will miss seeing you and your work in class and hope that you’ll join in again if you feel like it again. If you are every in Berkeley, please look me up or feel free to email me. Meanwhile, I’ll follow along via your blog. Warmly, Kathleen

    1. Hi Kathleen, Either Margaret or Peggy are fine, thank you! And, WOW, your comment is a lovely surprise. Peter Bonner’s class, (I am including our fellow classmates) has been a wonderful experience. It has the feeling of a community of wonderful artists searching and exchanging ideas. I am in awe of your knowledge modern art and artists; it’s inspiring. I feel like I have gained so much, and hope that I reciprocated. Yes, I would like to stay in contact and I enjoyed looking at your website! Thank you so much Kathleen, you made my day!
